I first came across MIOD skincare, during my early days into Green Beauty, and followed their journey as I delved deeper into my own. Being a proud Melbourne mama I was delighted to find out that Anna, the beautiful creator of MIOD was also a Melbourne mama and was living in the same area in which I grew up! What attracted me the most about what Anna was creating was the raw naturalness of the ingredients used, that everything is loving hand made and carefully formulated, quite perfect in its simplicity. So when I received some truly beautiful products from Anna I was over the moon, and as soon as I was able I began to trial four beautiful handcrafted products. Firstly I began with the Citrus Hand and Body wash. So Zesty! It has a beautifully scented Castile soap, that is much thinner in texture than a normal pump soap, but still with all the lather. Minus the toxic synthetic foaming agents that can be found at the supermarket. I have been using this for around 4 weeks now, as a hand soap and really love it. No drying out my hands. The cleaning balm is a firm favourite, so nourishing and effective, and my first experience using cleaning balms. It leaves this gorgeous protective barrier on my skin , that feels so soft.
Now to the interesting part to my review. As many of you may know from previous posts, I have quite sensitive skin, I can have random flare ups that cause me to go very red and itchy. Now I have never been able to pinpoint precisely what causes this in skincare, until I had some help from Anna. You see two of the MIOD products that I had been trialling, the Light Face Cream, and the Everyday Oil, had given me quite a bit of irritation, enough for my face to get hot, and for my skin to become blotchy. I was devastated, as the textures, absorbency and scents of these two products were just beautiful, and when layered, it was a perfect match. But I couldn't deny it, my skin was reacting, and with a heavy heart I contacted Anna to tell her of my Love for the beautiful cleansing balm, and my regrettable issue with the Oil and Cream. After some back and forth, Anna came back to me with a possible ingredient that was highly concentrated in the Oil, and only slightly less in the cream, and not in the cleaning balm. Excited I ran to check the ingredients of two other products that I have loved, yet been able to use for no apparent reason. Lo and Behold, there it was, the same ingredient. Lets just say it is part of the nut family and that I will be keeping my eye out for it in the future. The main purpose of this review, goes back to my previous instagram post about full disclosure, for both myself and for MIOD, obviously we were saddened that I could not continue using the products, but the main thing is that we were able to work together to come to a resolution, this is vital! Transparency and genuine care from a small business is everything. Anna went above and beyond to help me, and I am forever in her debt. MIOD specialise in custom skincare, so at some point I will ask Anna to make me something that doesn't have said ingredient, and I can experience the beautiful handcrafted goodness all over again. Thank you so much Anna.
